Case Study - TC Direct

Background

Our client is the distribution arm of a UK based manufacturing company. They had previously worked with Elemental Logic in creating their ecommerce website in 2000, and wanted a complete restructure and redesign to fit their new corporate branding and work as a platform for releasing international versions of the site.

The client had their own in-house design team who were producing product literature and branding concepts, these designs were put forward as a template for the new site.

The Solution

Because of the multi-language needs of the application, it was important to keep the site as simple as possible and reduce the number of graphics used. The client's internal design team presented a number of design layouts and worked with Elemental Logic in designing the structure of the site.

Elemental Logic had previously worked with Westworld Technology, our development partners, to produce a product database system for the client, and this would form the underpinning of the ecommerce application. The new web application uses the data from within the product database, and orders are downloaded and processed on a daily basis by the companies head office.

The underlying data structure allows for multiple languages, and the application uses regional specific language files. As a result the UK, French and German sites were released simultaneously. Since the initial release in 2004 there have been a number of additional countries and languages added to the client's portfolio, all of which utilise the existing platform.
